A big hi and hello to all of you out there! Thank you for stopping by Jenny Sun Photography's blog! This is my brand new blog space! So please make yourself at home, and have a good browse around. There is plenty more to come so check back often :) Just in case any of you are wondering who on earth I am, my name is Jenny Sun. I own a photography company that spans across Australia and Malaysia, particularly in the Sydney and Kuala Lumpur regions respectively. Though I'm not restricted to those areas! :) I love photographing just about anything under the sun, but my particular passion is for weddings and portraits - I seriously LOVE people, their stories, the beautiful relationships formed, and the tales that are told when that shutter goes off!

This blog is my personal and visual journey along this path of photography. Please hop on board the ride, comment along the way (I shamelessly love comments!), and lets see where the wind takes us :)

Warren and Vera: Wedding

To some, weddings are all about the dress, the cake, the type of flowers, how creative the decorations are. To others, weddings are about memories. The moments that run right by us in split seconds on the day. They tell of relationships. Laughter. Love.

Warren and Vera's wedding clearly sat in the latter group, and shone out like a star. Then again, if any of you had seen their engagement session, you would know that hints of this were seen in the photos that were a result of our outing together. When I looked back at the photos from their wedding, it was heartwarming to see such an overflowing of exuberant laughter and pure joy. You see, of late, I've been a little down as a result of some less than pleasant things said about my work...deeming it to be 'uncreative'. It really bit hard, and if you have wondered why the silence on this blog, that's why.

However! when I look at moments captured at weddings such as Warren and Vera's, I was, and I am reminded of two very important things: (1) That I am a documentary wedding photography first and foremost, not an art wedding photographer....I tell stories. And (2) I was reminded of what gives me real joy in how I photograph weddings - that is, the moments. Those smiles. Real unabashed memories with raw emotions staring straight back at you. My favourite compliment from any bride is when she tells me she remembers how she felt by looking at her photos :)

That makes my heart smile :)

As they say, you are only as good as your client deems you to be. So here is a super kick goodbye to trying to please the wrong crowd, and an all forward embrace to keeping those who are important, happy - my clients :) Warren and Vera, you two are no exception. I really really hope that when you look back at these photos, you remember how much in love and how happy you two are, and how many people celebrate the love you share with you. Thank you for being so warm, kind, and fun to work with - I only have the fondest memories of you both!

Much love,

Enjoy some of my favourite picks from their big day. It was difficult to cull down!:

Did you know that Vera was the first bride who got all organized and ready ahead of time, and was practically dressed by the time her photographer got to the door! ;) Here she is almost done up!

I don't know what was the in joke between these two :p

I love how happy Warren is in this shot :)

Final touches just before the location shots.

Don't worry, we got the proper 'jump' shot, but I thought it would be funny and have a slightly different take if we did this (no cropping in photoshop done!):

I personally think Vera looks just gorgeous in this shot... all that yummy backlit light :)

And this is my personal favourite portrait of the bride and groom of the day.

Beautiful flare filled light :)

I adore this one too....

It was stinking hot that day, so when we passed by a convenience store, the entire bridal party walked in to buy food, drinks, and ice cream! Leaving the bride and groom outside... so what better to do when you have a few spare moments, and a photographer on your side? Use her to take more photos!! :p

Here are some shots of the gang, enjoying their convenience store finds :)

I love this shot as well :)

Then it was off to the reception! It started with a tea ceremony...

Then I had some fun with the rings. Vera loves m&ms, so I hope this finds meaning to the bride :)

Then, we set up a 'photobooth'. Not a real booth as such, but an area that we set up some lights and started firing off some 'fun' portraits. Trust me when I say that the JSP photobooth is NOT for the dull or the fainthearted. Once you step in, you are required to be creative and work it for us! ;) We took heaps, but here are some of my faves. Just a note, the bigger the area you give us, the better the shots turn out :) We got given a smaller area at this wedding, but improvised and had fun with it!

As it is with Chinese weddings, there are often some pretty hilarious games to witness. I remember laughing my head off while watching the antics that took place. Have a look at a sample!

And, can I tell you that if you attend a wedding where one of the Tse brothers is getting married, you are GUARANTEED to cry your eyes out laughing. It was the case with Wayne and Angela's wedding. And it was no different when Wayne's brother, Warren, got hitched. Speeches are always gold :)

And this was my favourite capture of the night. I laugh every time i look at this series of reactions when they showed a particularly eye opening slideshow!!

Apparently this was the camera that took some of the shots that ended up on that very memorable slideshow!!

Some toasts to end the night.

Before I sign off, here is something that meant alot to me at this wedding. Warren and Vera made me a place card!! And they placed myself, and Vincy + Natt (who were helping me that night) right on the bridal table with them! I wasn't exaggerating earlier when I said that Warren and Vera are just the most awesome people ever :) I was really touched by the gesture :)

And I have to really really emphasis this time to watch the slideshow!! It has a tonne of extra images, and all the other special moments that happened in between that tell the full story. Its worth watching for all those smiles :) To those on slower connections, remember to press play first, then when the bar begins to load, press pause. Once the bar is fully loaded after you press pause, press play and you can watch the whole show uninterrupted :)

Lastly, thank you to Natt and Vincy who helped me out with this wedding. They contributed some of the beautiful images you see in the slideshow :)

This is great stuff!! Screw whoever said you're not creative 'cos it's not true. A photo is far more valuable when it captures a real moment anyway.

Photo booth - these are you fav? but...what about the one where the guest was using the magnifying glass to magnify his friend' know the one =p

Hey gorgeous!

I am glad that you have come to that conclusion. As a wedding photographer you have the responsibility to document this one important day for them - so that in 40 years time, they can show their children, becoming an heirloom to them! What a privilege!!!!

Weddings are not about the fancy poses, locations etc... Weddings are about two people becoming one -with their families and friends to witness.

And this set highlights it... It's a time of celebration between family and friends... And man, I can feel the loving and fun!

You are amazing!

Hi Jenny, I've always admired your work, your ability to portray true emotion and the 'moment', and I fully agree that this is more important than super fancy poses and locations :) said...

Jenny, I echoes your thoughts. We cannot live to please everyone, as everyone is entitle to their respective opinions. Along the way, there'll surely be people who love to criticize, but we have a choice. We chose to please our customers and people who appreciate your work, and that definitely includes me :) I love your work, as it's photojournalistic in nature & very strong colors which i simply have soft spot on. My 2cents worth and cheers!
