A big hi and hello to all of you out there! Thank you for stopping by Jenny Sun Photography's blog! This is my brand new blog space! So please make yourself at home, and have a good browse around. There is plenty more to come so check back often :) Just in case any of you are wondering who on earth I am, my name is Jenny Sun. I own a photography company that spans across Australia and Malaysia, particularly in the Sydney and Kuala Lumpur regions respectively. Though I'm not restricted to those areas! :) I love photographing just about anything under the sun, but my particular passion is for weddings and portraits - I seriously LOVE people, their stories, the beautiful relationships formed, and the tales that are told when that shutter goes off!

This blog is my personal and visual journey along this path of photography. Please hop on board the ride, comment along the way (I shamelessly love comments!), and lets see where the wind takes us :)

Europe: Seville, Spain

I don't like getting old. You really feel every moment lost not sleeping, when you should be :) I wanted to write all the contemplative and pensive thoughts that have been floating around in my head the past couple of months, but as life has it, there are never enough hours in the day to encompass the entirety of what needs to be accomplished, so I'm just going to share with you my travel photos bit by bit instead :) while my reflective posts form and eventuate :)

I've been meaning to pull these out and share with everyone for the longest time, but it kind of got squeezed out in between all the shoots, travelling, and just living life :) This week, since its all about re-fueling the soul and going back to my roots and what I love, I'm sharing some photos we took in Seville, Spain. I've been editing them as a means of therapy (I know that sounds weird! ) and a form of a small and much needed break from all the wedding photos we've been editing. You see, I love travelling. Its a bug that bit me hard when I was in my teens and to this day, I still haven't shaken it out of my veins. I don't know if it ever will. At times, it feels almost ingrained into me as much my name is to who I am.

So here are some of the snapshots of Seville. This incredibly quaint and delightful city just outside of portugal (You could really see the Portuguese influences in the architecture). Spain was just beautiful weather wise for the entire trip, until we reached this little city - the red on the thermometer must have triple jumped all the way up because it was BLISTERING hot. The kind of hot where your skin felt like it was sizzling in the same way eggs do on a piping hot pan. Regardless, the place was just picturesque and I loved the little lanes and alleys you had to walk through to get from place to place - it almost felt like we were tunneling some secret world! :)

More to come :)

The gorgeous architecture.

I love love love patterns and colours... but you already know that ;)

Most of the buildings in Seville looked like this. It was just incredible :)

I have no idea why, but I found this photo hilarious :) Hot pink is the new black ;)

Ju always manages to spot the strange and quirky, and snap it in a photo to tell a particular message :) I love this :)

One of my favourites as we were strolling against the riverbank one hot hot hot afternoon :) How many people can you find? ;)

Change

I'm nestled here, inside the comfortable confines of my blankets, at 3am, and unable to sleep. It has been one of those torturous nights where the body is screaming for rest, but the mind is ticking and tocking furiously away...ever alert, and bursting forward at full pace. So, in the time I've spent in an endeavour to spoonfeed some calm into the headspace, I've dug into the past and read through all the archives of my blog. It started as a search for some photos I took on holiday, and then I stumbled upon some photos from my wedding, and the rest followed...posts about what made me laugh, entries about what struck me about life that day. Things that made me cry. I could go on. It made me realize that in the past, I used to write alot more for....well, me.

This may run into the danger of sounding completely self absorbent, and I am SO sorry if it does (I promise you can throw tomatoes at this blog space next time for this hideous rearing of vanity's head. I am not normally like this :)) but, I really miss the days where I used to be able to pen down my thoughts, flesh out my dreams and wishes, and knead through my disappointments about life and love in the written word. I've realized the past year, while I love everything I've written here on this blog about weddings and the like, I write more out of love for all of you, than for myself :) Because I love you all so much! You who read this, MAKE this space what it is today. And when I don't write, those emails and messages that come in asking how I am, if I am okay, where am I, make this girl feel so special. You really are the best :)

However, in the crazy hurls that life sucks us into all too often, time and space dedicated to oneself is often warmly welcomed. Needed almost. So this week, I'm taking a little break from all things wedding related, and I'll be writing on other things and other photos. I'll be going back to my roots, and writing about the things that matter to me in life, from the big to the small. I'm going to write, because it makes me feel good. Not because I have to. I'm going to write, and this time, I'll be writing for me :)

Julia and Brendan: Engagement

Cool. Sassy. Fabulous.

I love clients who embody the above qualities. I mean, seriously, who refers and recommends their friends to their photographer BEFORE they have had their photos taken? And BEFORE they've seen their wedding/engagement photos? Julia and Brendan did. They are THAT fabulous. And I can't thank and love 'em enough for that incredible trust and confidence :)

So on a breezy day, where the sky was enveloped in thick swirls of grey cotton candy, I had the pleasure of having them before my camera lens. And what a joy it was. To see their playful quirkiness, and their light hearted vivaciousness, all rolled into a sweet kind of love that is never too over the top, nor too hidden. So much so, that I knew that when it came to their wedding day, I would be greeted with snapshots that would be filled with the same measure of wonderful. You know, in that cool, sassy, fabulous kind of way :)

Here are a few of my favourites from their engagement session. The sun went hiding for our session, so it gave me a chance to process their images in a slightly different way. Don't worry, I'm not leaving my punchy colour style :) I'm just introducing more members into our processing family :)

These two had way too much fun on the swings! haha :)

A little detail.

I LOVE it when my clients laugh uncontrollably in front of the lens. I mean, why keep laughter hidden? Its such a beautiful thing :)

Then, God graced us with the sun. It came out to play with us for a little while, and I LOVED it! :)

Favourite :)

Have a gorgeous weekend everyone! :)

ps: I am still unwell today folks, but I am tackling our ever stubborn inbox again later this afternoon, so please bear with us! I've been unwell this week so its been a little crazy in our email world lately :) And winners of the comp, I'll be contacting you in the next few days!

TRA & Pin Me Up Couture Competition Winners

This was a feat. A sheer and utter battle against my indecisiveness. I believe I make good choices, but when given a mountain load of incredibly good options to pick from, I swear I am a complete puddle of goo.

That was how I felt when I started sitting down, then sifting through ALL the entries we received for our celebratory 100,000 competition where we're giving away a whole set of Totally Rad Actions, and a hairpiece from Pin Me Up Couture, away for free :) I was amazed, and astounded at the incredible response we received (there were sooooooo many!), and just humbled that there is such an amazing community of photographers and blog readers. Thank you to ALL of you who took the time to write, share, and just introduce yourselves to me. It was beautiful to finally hear from people who had been visiting our little corner of the web for awhile, but was a little shy to let us know :) You are all amazing :)

Anyhow, I really have to ring out my apologies through and through, as this post was supposed to go up on tuesday, but as life has it, the little interruptions along the way stood between me and that last full stop I was intending to write. First with the flu, then with blackouts in the office, and then last night with a terrible case of food poisoning. In fact, I am still sitting here in bed, typing with a sore tummy from all the vomiting action that occurred last night. If it weren't for my husband, who took me to the clinic while I was clinging on to his arm in pain at 3am, then again at 5am, and then stayed with me until 11am to make sure I slept and was okay. I honestly don't think I would have survived the night as I did, without him :) I am able to sit here and blog, and do what I love, and what you get to see here, because of him :)

So... without further ado, here are the winners. Sadly, alot had to be eliminated because the entries didnt answer all the questions required for the giveaway. The entries only counted if you answered our questions properly. Regardless, it was REALLY REALLY REALLY hard to choose. I swear, if I could give 50 sets away, I easily could have, and it still would have been hard narrowing down the winners. And just to make sure there was no bias, I enlisted help to pick the winners below:

(1) Winner of the Pin Me Up Couture hairpiece:

MICHELLE CHONG
(we loved your entry, it was sweet, honest, and made us laugh. I hope the piece makes a beautiful addition to your wedding day photos! I want photos of it! :) )

(2) Winner of the TRA set:

AJIRA DARCH-SHARP
(your entry was so lovely, cheerful, and really showed you read the blog and know what it and what I am all about. As well as what TRA is all about! I can't wait to see how TRA moulds and shapes how your photos look!)

And a special last giveaway to a third person: Aesthetic Awakenings
When we were sitting down reading the entries, we kept going back to yours. It was so heartfelt, real, and very inspiring. We'd love to send your way an itunes gift voucher to use at the itunes stores :) Thank you for gracing us with your beautiful message, it really was humbling and encouraging :)

To the winners, please email me your details:
(1) Email address
(2) Postal address

Thank you to everyone who was part of this! It was amazing and so fun! I don't think this will be the last time so stay tuned :) We received a lot of emails requesting for the 1 hour mentoring, but I still can't get over how conceited that sounds and because I dont want to look or sound, or BE a vain little thing, I might hold off. Unless some of you convince me otherwise hahaha :)

Thank you again beautifuls!

xoxo

To those waiting for the next post, here is a sneak peak to the shoot I'll be blogging about in my next blog post, after I catch a few hours of shut eye! :)

Alvin & Shinny: Engagement

Perhaps it was his boisterous laugh, or his effervescent nature. Maybe it was the mystery that lay behind her abashed smiles. Or the soft-spoken tones that lilted in the air when she spoke to him. Whatever it is, there is a fascinating enigma that sits behind such opposites attracting that really intrigues the curiosity inside me. I often wonder, and ask, how it is, that two such different people can still unite and love one another with a strength and a force that is to be reckoned with.

My theory, after years of mulling over the relational riddle, I believe opposites come together to compliment one another where the other lacks. And the more couples I see who fall into the 'opposites' attract bandwagon, the more I believe it rings true. The loud encourager will lift up and push forward the shy unsure one. The easy going natured, will calm and soothe the anxious one. The organized and planned, will help pull together the one who has big ideas but isn't sure how to realize them. I could go on.

For Alvin and Shinny, It was the proverbial case of the animated high spirited boy who met, caught, and then victoriously won the heart of the shy, demure girl next door. From their courtship days where they would sit side by side by the local lake, walk hand in hand amongst the busy college campus, they are now going to journey heart to heart as one, as husband and wife :)

I'll be shooting their wedding really soon!! So I thought, before that happens, it would be a fabulous idea to blog their engagement session which they did with me recently :) This is for all of you who don't believe you can get pretty light in Malaysia. Most people think because I shoot mainly in Australia, that's where I get all the good light. Well, I believe if you plan well, go to the right location, and with God's favour, miracles can happen :)

Thank you so much Alvin and Shinny for trusting me with your shoot and location for it!! :) You got the sunlight you wanted :D I can't wait to have you in front of my lens again on your big day!! :D

Here are my faves from the session:

Backlit yummy goodness!

I LOVE this shot. It was one of my favourites of the day.

Another favourite :)

The light was simply GLORIOUS that morning :)

I love my flare!! :D

Shinny is hands down stunning. Did you know she is also a fabulous makeup artist? Yes people, she did herself for this shoot :)

My favourite portrait of Shinny for the day. The light was just pefect! :D

Then a change to a casual theme :) I love casual shoots! :D

Alvin is also a photographer! Talk about pressure! Shooting a photographer AND a makeup artist! haha :) Here they are mucking around with their toy.

Girls with fabulous shoes are THE BEST. bold colours are awesome! :D

And lastly, hands down my FAVOURITE shot of the entire session. I've wanted to do this shot for awhile, but have been waiting for the right time, location, etc. This was perfect. Thanks Shinny. Your hand made hearts were the last ingredient I needed to finish a shot I've had in my head for a year :)

Have a beautiful day everyone! I'm sitting here writing this post with back aches and a headache, with international guests staying over, and I have a shoot to be at tomorrow, so bear with me as normality resumes in the JSP world! :D
